Coastal Mid-Atlantic Fishing Report, May 2 Update: It is an exciting time of year for coastal anglers as there are several bites kicking off. The surf has been very productive this spring and Dave Moore of Shark Whisperers reports an improving bite at the beaches, with multiple trips out on Assateague producing a mix of black drum and big stripers. The ratio of rockfish to drum seems to be on the increase, with both species hitting sand fleas. He also noted that some tautog are hitting at the… Read more from Coastal...
Freshwater Fishing Report, May 2 Update: The weather has been more stable and is offering some beautiful spring days to get out and fish. Contributor Eric Packard says bass have been hitting in local ponds, with wacky worms producing the best bite. Packard also got out late in the week and said bass were eager to hit topwater lures on local southern Maryland ponds. A white whopper plopper produced several bites. We also had another reader send in this pic of a magnificent smallie, caught on a… Read more from Freshwater...
Way North Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report, May 2 Update: The weather has warmed up and conditions have been great to get out and do some fishing. The hickory shad run is still going strong on the lower Susquehanna River with anglers catching fish at the Conowingo Dam, Deer Creek, and Octoraro Creek. Tandem-rigged shad darts and metal spoons are the most reliable lures to throw for shad. Their color preference can change from day to day, so it is a good idea to have several different colored shad… Read more from Way North...
Upper Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report, May 2 Update: White perch are starting to move into their summer locations, but they have not arrived there in numbers yet. A lot of them are still making their way out of the spawning tributaries as their run is coming to an end. They should start to show up in their usual hangouts in the next few weeks, which will include places such as Six Foot Knoll, Seven Foot Knoll, the Bay Bridge, and scattered throughout the shallows of the tidal rivers. There was a… Read more from Upper Bay...
Middle Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report, May 2 Update: Readers making an early run on the white perch in creeks off the South River reported no joy as of yet. The perch should start showing up in their summer haunts this month, which will include the shallows in all the tidal tributaries, areas with oyster bottom, and any of the artificial reef sites in the Middle Bay. Small spinners, artificial jigs, minnows, and grass shrimp are some of their preferred baits. The catfish bite on the main stem… Read more from Middle Bay...
Lower Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report, May 2 Update: It is an exciting time of year to fish as several bites are going strong. Snakehead fishing has been excellent this spring. Apex Predators on Potomac Creek sent in several pics of nice catches their clients made on the Potomac. An angler fishing a creek in northern Virginia reported catching a 30.5” snakehead while topwater fishing. Potomac River tributaries on both the Maryland and Virginia sides have been fishing well this spring as an… Read more from Lower Bay...
Tangier, Pocomoke, and Lower Shore Fishing Report, May 2 Update:  This region of the Bay can be a magical place during the spring, and we are seeing anglers take advantage of several great opportunities this week. Captain C.L. Marshall of Tangier Sound Charters has continued to put his clients on big fish, and they have been enjoying a good run of black drum into the Tangier and Pocomoke sounds. A trip at the beginning of the week produced seven black drum up to 46” while fishing crab on fish… Read more from Tangier and Lower Shore...
Way South Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report, May 2 Update: Now is the time to get out on the water folks. There are several bites going strong, and opportunities are only increasing in the southern Chesapeake. Bull red drum continue to dominate the coastal seaside bays near the mouth of the Bay and anglers are finding them in waters of less than five feet. Kayakers have been enjoying good success while searching shallow flats with side scan. Several anglers have mentioned that when boats come… Read more from Way South...
